Common FTP Problems

1. Incorrect User Name and Password
Make sure that you are connecting to the correct server: ftp.<yourdomain> and that your FTP User ID and Password is correct.  For help resetting your FTP account details, please see: Reset your FTP password

2. Passive FTP mode
You will not be able to connect to the FTP server, if the Passive FTP setting is active.  You can switch Passive FTP Mode OFF as follows:

- Open FileZilla
- Click "Edit/Settings"
- Click "Firewall Settings", disable Passive FTP

For detailed instructions, please download your complete FTP manual.

3. Firewall / Internet Security settings
If you can't connect to your FTP server, your Firewall or Internet Security settings might be blocking communication on port 21.  Try temporarily disabling your Firewall or internet security software.

4. Unable to write files
If you cannot write files to the server, try recreating your FTP account in HELM.

5. Check if the FTP service is online
If you think that your FTP server might be offline, please check the service on our Network Operations monitor: http://ops.cozahost.com
